Science Week (1)

Science Week 2025 brought an exciting twist to learning as local libraries in Longford and Offaly transformed into hubs of innovation and problem-solving. Over 150 students from national and secondary schools stepped into “The Bioeconomy Breakout”, our desk-based escape room experience designed to make science interactive, fun and deeply relevant to our future.

The escape room challenged participants to solve puzzles and decode clues rooted in real-world science themes, most notably the bioeconomy, Just Transition, and the steps we can take toward a greener, more sustainable way of living. From understanding renewable resources to exploring how communities can adapt to climate-friendly practices, students discovered that science isn’t just something in textbooks, it’s the key to shaping tomorrow.

Teachers and librarians praised the initiative for sparking curiosity and teamwork. “It was incredible to see students so engaged,” said one local librarian. “They weren’t just playing a game, they were learning how science connects to everyday life and the future of our planet.”

The event highlighted how creative approaches to education can empower young people to think critically about sustainability and innovation. By blending fun with learning, “The Bioeconomy Breakout” proved that science can be both challenging and inspiring.

As Science Week wrapped up, the success of this program underscores the importance of community-driven efforts to make complex topics accessible and exciting. With initiatives like this, the Midlands are helping to cultivate the next generation of scientists, innovators and problem-solvers who will lead the way toward a greener future.
